Inviting users and roles
Everyone in your organization signs in to the same DataStori workspace. Each person has one role, which decides what they can do there.
Roles
DataStori has three roles: Admin, Editor and Viewer.
| Role | What they can do |
|---|---|
| Admin | Everything an Editor can do, plus invite and remove users, change roles, and set data access. Admins can reach every table in the data catalog. |
| Editor | Create, edit, run and delete applications, pipelines, schedules and transformations. Use all the AI agents. |
| Viewer | Browse pipelines, the dashboard, documentation and data. Ask the Data Exploration Agent questions. Viewers cannot save, run or delete anything. |
A Viewer who clicks a button that would change something sees the message "Viewers cannot modify data." The same check runs on the server, so the change is rejected even if it is sent another way.
Invite a user
Only Admins can invite users.
- Go to Account > Users in the navigation bar.
- Click Invite New User.
- Enter the person's email address.
- Choose a role. New users are Viewers unless you pick another role.
- Click Invite User.
The person receives an email with a sign-in link. There is no password to set. They sign in with the link and land in your organization's workspace.
A person can belong to only one organization. If the email address is already part of another DataStori organization, the invite fails.
Change a user's role
Admins can change a role at any time from Account > Users. Pick the new role in the user's Role column. The change applies right away.
Remove a user
Admins can remove a user from Account > Users by clicking the delete icon in the user's row and confirming. The person loses access to your organization's workspace. Their pipelines and data stay in place.
You cannot remove yourself.
Keep at least one Admin
Every organization must have at least one Admin. DataStori will not let you remove the last Admin or change their role to Editor or Viewer. Make someone else an Admin first.
